Want to Help Boxer Rescue?

Here are some ways…

Share the knowledge that rescues can help find homes for unwanted, uncared for, and unloved Boxers. Rescues help find homes for these dogs, and Rescues aren’t just for Boxers either. All breeds and many other kinds of animals have rescues that help when needed.

Relate your experiences with rescue dogs and tell people that rescue organizations are also a good source of information about a particular breed, without pressuring the person to buy that puppy. Do mention rescue to those who are looking for a puppy, too, because rescues have a lot of experience with families that failed with their Boxers and can share their perspective about what leads to success. Ask us to share information on puppy mills, legitimate breeders and rescues. Our rescue can email you information on how to evaluate a puppy, assess the breeder, learn to avoid puppy mills and answer questions about how to be successful with your new puppy or adult rescue.

Donations help keep us going. Tax-deductible donations to Boxer Rescue help pay for veterinary and food bills, help buy things like crates, bedding, water buckets, collars, leashes, treats and toys, and all the other things rescue dogs need until adopted.

Tell people that Boxer Rescue and Adoption, Inc. is a member of the Combined Federal Campaign, #54166 or the United Way and other work place charities. Keep an eye out for Boxers in need. Check newspaper ads for Boxers, posted ads about Boxers that are “free to a good home”, and Boxers that are in danger by being neglected or abused. Inform people about rescue!

If people really do want to buy a puppy, warn them not to purchase pups from pet stores and be careful about buying on the Internet, as a lot of these pups are from puppy mills where the breeding dogs are usually kept in deplorable conditions and bred until they are discarded as no longer profitable. Instead educate them about where pet store puppies come from and have them contact rescue for the names of reputable breeders, breeders that will perform health checks on their dogs and try to breed Boxers that are healthy and bred to the American Boxer Club standards.

Volunteer to help raise money for rescue. If you wish to donate supplies, ask which ones we use because we buy them tax exempt. If you donate collars, we use Martingale collars and use artificial skeepskin bedding that can easily be washed and bleached. We use treats for training and use particular brands of food because changing a dog’s diet can cause GI upsets. Boxers love new toys that can be washed to keep them clean. Volunteer to help give walks, help with baths and do toe nails.

Refuse to spend a nickel in a pet store that sells puppies or kittens. Protest fund raisers that use puppies as auction items or raffle prizes. Do not support people or businesses that obviously don’t have the best interest of animals at heart.

If you hear of someone who “rescues” animals, but is really a collector, report them. These animals are not rescued, do not get proper care and never leave that “rescue”.
